Meet the staff!
This week we are highlighting our Radiology department. In an orthopedic/sports medicine clinic the radiographers are key to helping the medical staff make accurate diagnoses, assess the progress of injuries, and provide confirmation of treatment choices. Our clinic has two digital X-ray machines and a permanent fixed Siemens MRI machine. To maintain the absolute best quality we participate in an every other year ACR accreditation program for our radiology services. This involves an extensive list of requirements and testing of our equipment and our radiology staff techniques to insure that high quality services are being provided to you – our patients. Very few clinics participate in this program, because it is so labor intensive!
We have patients who travel long distances and thus, having an MRI machine on site allows us to provide same day MRI scans (if scheduling and insurance restrictions allow). This saves our patients the inconvenience of multiple visits to get a diagnosis and also allows us to initiate treatment sooner!
Note the lovely ceiling tiles in our MRI room!
Upward and onward – our equipment is useless without a skilled staff behind it all!
Robin is our senior radiographer. She joined the Air Force and received her training in San Antonio in 1987. She has been with New West Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Surgery for 14 years! Robin operates the MRI scanner as well as performing a multitude of X-ray studies. We would be lost without her! In her spare time, Robin enjoys singing (she could be on America’s Got Talent) and spending time with her family – including being a grandma!! She finds each patient to be interesting as they each have a life story outside of their orthopedic issues and those stories are always intriguing to hear.
Lyndsey has been on our radiology staff for 10 years. She received her training at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs in 2008. Lyndsey also takes a turn operating the MRI machine as well as performing the gamut of skeletal X-rays. She loves quality family time and is an excellent baker and cook. Lyndsey loves interacting with our patients and tries to put them at ease by explaining the nature of our procedures – especially MRI scans.
Megan has been with New West Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Surgery for 4 years. She completed her radiology training at Mary Lanning Hospital in 2015. She is a cross trained tech and also operates the MRI machine. Megan enjoys family time, and is very “outdoorsy” - equally at home with hunting and fishing. She likes the small group atmosphere of our facility and her friendly co-workers!
Our newest tech is Jayden. Jayden did her training at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings graduating in 2018. She is “mama” to a German Short Hair named Willow. Outside of the clinic, Jayden engages in fishing, golf, and spending lots of time with family. She finds fulfillment in her job when she sees patients getting better. She has a friendly smile that is reassuring to our patients!
Our part time, but essential, radiographer is Peg. Peg works Fridays and as needed on other days to help us out. She trained at the Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha and has years of valuable X-ray experience. In her spare time Peg likes to knit, crochet, and sew. She loves spending time with her grandkids. Peg enjoys the variety of patients she sees and loves to help them along the road to recovery. She never tires of the interesting cases that come her way!
In addition to their duties in performing X-rays and MRI scans our radiography staff also act as mentors and instructors for radiology students from Mary Lanning hospital who spend a rotation with us. This experience provides the students with the opportunity to enhance their training by performing hundreds of X-rays on a wide array of orthopedic conditions. This is a very focused and intense training scenario for these soon to be radiographers!
Our current student, Erin (pictured above) is from Sidney and is in the Mary Lanning program. We enjoy having Erin on board. She is rapidly learning the ropes here and is already a very accomplished skeletal radiographer!
We appreciate the opportunity to highlight our radiology staff and should you ever need X-rays in our clinic, we hope you will consider them as family!
