New West Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Surgery is a multi-faceted clinic designed to create the most complete experience in terms of good care for our patients. One aspect of that care is our Casting and Bracing department. We have a large inventory of braces, splints, orthotics, crutches and cast material – all tested by our technicians to ensure that they will appropriately protect our patients and speed their healing.
The department is staffed by three full-time orthotechs. We are one of the few, if not the only, clinics in Nebraska to employ specially trained orthotechs who are able to apply and remove casts as well as fit our patients with state of the art braces, splints, and orthotics. Each orthotech has completed four years of college with a degree in athletic training, followed by a year of supervision in a clinical setting under the direction of an orthopedic surgeon. After that, they take (and must pass) a three hour test to prove technical expertise and understanding of their field.
Jordan has been with NWSM for three years and she leads the Casting and Bracing department. She received her athletic training degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Jordan derives great satisfaction in helping patients along the road to recovery. In her youth she had several sports injuries and can identify closely with her patients.
Jordan is the proud “mom” of her dog, Wrigley – an obvious baseball fan! Jordan enjoys country music and spending time on the lake when she has time off.
Kaden received his bachelors in athletic training at UNL as well. One of his joys at work is seeing patients progress from an acute injury to full healing by the end of their treatment program. He also feels that he works in the best sports medicine clinic in the state – we may have to give him a raise for saying that!! Kaden is married and is the proud “pappa” to a golden retriever named Oakley and a Samoyed named Finn. His free time hobbies include golfing.
The newest addition to our staff is Jeff. Jeff also obtained his bachelors in athletic training at UNL. Jeff enjoys seeing his patients get relief from their pain and disability whether it be from injury or surgery. He oftentimes will have close contact with patients as they progress thru their healing phase. Jeff lives in Ord and drives the 75 miles to Kearney everyday – something he says he wouldn’t do, if he didn’t truly enjoy his work! Jeff is married and has three children: 7 year old Evelyn, 4 year old Vienna and 10 month old Burkleigh. When he has free time, he likes to hunt, fish and play golf.
There you have it – our casting and bracing crew! Hopefully, you will never need their services, but if you do, you are in the best of hands with these highly trained and caring folks!
