Dr. Paul Nielsen

Dr. Paul Nielsen

New West Sports Medicine is blessed with two excellent hand surgeons. We are highlighting our newest hand surgeon, Dr. Paul Nielsen!

Dr. Nielsen obtained his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Missouri; he graduated Summa Cum Laude with high honors. He obtained his MD from the University of Missouri and then did his orthopedic residency at the University of Nebraska-Creighton orthopedic program.

Following that, Dr. Nielsen did his fellowship in hand and upper extremity at the prestigious Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center in Indianapolis before joining New West Sports Medicine.

Dr. Nielsen brings his keen intellect and outstanding orthopedic prowess to New West Sports Medicine utilizing innovative and minimally invasive surgical techniques to benefit his patients. Dr. Nielsen has tackled some very challenging trauma cases involving the hand and has delivered amazing results for his patients. As a physician, he is very aware that people need the best possible outcomes so that they can get back to their vocations and their avocations! A hallmark of Dr. Nielsen’s approach to patient care is his kind and caring approach to each person. His personable smile tells it all!

Dr. Nielsen sees patients of all ages at New West Sports Medicine, he also sees patients at his outreach clinic at Harlan County Hospital in Alma, NE. (If you would like to see Dr. Nielsen, and Alma is a more convenient location for you, please give our clinic a call for more information on how to schedule in Alma.)

He is married with two children – a two year old and a 6 month old –you can guess how he spends his spare time! Dr. Nielsen does enjoy hunting in the rare moments when he has free time, but his first love is his family.

Some patients, like Christine can be treated in the office with a simple injection – she did well even if her initial facial expression said otherwise!

Other patients have the misfortune of fracturing their wrists and require casting– like Diane.

In the case of Stetson, pins were needed to correct a fracture from a basketball injury – he is making great progress as seen here at his follow up visit.

Julie required surgery to put a plate in her wrist to treat a fracture from a car accident – perfect alignment achieved!

Even our young patients feel comfortable around Dr. Nielsen – he has the touch! Kameron fractured his wrist and was able to achieve a great outcome without surgery!

Even this young patient, Emily, found a new friend in Dr. Nielsen. Her fractured humerus is healing nicely!

Of course we all know that the real success to good outcomes also depends upon the support staff who work with Dr. Nielsen; pictured above are his main nurses Stacey and Susanne.

Life can be a "piece of cake" (or cupcake), when you surround yourself with good people.
